The Stroudwater Navigation was a canal that linked Stroud to the Severn Estuary near Gloucester, forming a connection between the River Thames and River Severn by connecting to the Thames and Severn Canal at Wallbridge near Stroud. This eight-mile-long canal had thirteen locks and was opened in 1777, operating until its formal abandonment in 1954. In 2001, the Cotswold Canals Partnership was established to restore the Stroudwater Navigation from Stonehouse to Stroud.
