A Grand Victorian Rococo Revival Adjustable Piano Stool, c. 1860–1880 Giltwood, with Heavy-Duty Mechanical Mechanism, Circa 1860–1880 England A substantial and exceptionally fine Victorian giltwood piano stool, carved in the elaborate Rococo Revival taste. This piece is a triumph of mid-19th-century cabinet making, distinguished by its robust internal mechanical height-adjustment system and architectural presence. Mechanical Sophistication: Unlike standard stools, this example houses a heavy-duty winding mechanism operated by turned side handles, allowing for smooth, precise, and secure height adjustment. Exuberant Rococo Carving: The giltwood frame is enriched with deep acanthus foliage, flowing C-scrolls, and an ornate central cartouche on the cross-stretcher bar. The cabriole legs terminate in distinctive shaped block feet. The "Music Room" Drawer: Features a rare and practical shallow frieze drawer with its original turned wooden pull—traditionally used for storing tuning keys or frequently used sheet music. Regal Upholstery: The generously proportioned seat is finished in a plush green velvet with decorative braiding, offering comfort that matches the stool's decorative grandeur.
